CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY – CSR – is one of the most encouraging trends to emerge in recent years from the worlds of industry and commerce. We suspect (though we have no hard evidence of this) and hope that in the aftermath of the global financial meltdown, those at the top of many companies and corporations will be re-examining their priorities and deciding to get themselves and their staff more involved in helping their local communities.
CSR does, naturally, have a commercial benefit. It creates better ties to the local community, from which most of the staff come, and it improves the image of the company among the others in the local community who are not directly employed by the company.
The PCF can help. There are several possible levels of corporate involvement in the local community:
- Funding. If you want to put money into the community but do not have the time or manpower to apply it, we can guide you to people who will manage community projects for you.
- Funding and expertise. Let us know what kind of project your in-house experts and technical people can contribute and we’ll match those skills with the appropriate project.
- Funding, expertise and/or manpower. Many staff enjoy a day out (on full pay, of course) doing something worthwhile. It also helps them to see the company as a generous employer, and so has HR benefits. But please note – if you want to go down this path, you need to do it regularly. One-offs, however much they may benefit the community, don’t have significant HR or team-building benefits.
On top of guiding you to the right people and helping set everythjing up, the PCF will help to provide transparency and ensure that, as a donor (or the donor) you receive the appropriate branding and public recognition. And when the project is complete, you, not the PCF, will be in the spotlight. We’ll help organise the appropriate ceremony, with media coverage.
