Social mapping
WHAT ARE PHUKET’S PROBLEMS? Society’s weaknesses? Its strengths? We can all make educated guesses, and everyone has his or her views on this. But do these views reflect reality, or do we risk being side-tracked into fixing “problems” that seem vital but are, in fact, not really top priority?
If no one has done any research to find out where Phuket is strong and where it is weak, then we are all guessing.
The PCF therefore commissioned a team of researchers, the Phattanasak Consultant Team, to conduct a Social Mapping exercise. The first phase of this was recently completed. The information that was gathered gives us a broad “map” of strengths and weaknesses across the island. An initial read-through shows that our best guesses are not far off the mark, though there are also some surprises.
The final report is thorough, and will take us some time to digest, and we have also asked for the researchers to pursue answers to further questions from us.
The final results will be available to anyone once we receive them.
